Tea Health Fact:
Researchers of a recent study in Boston have shown that flavonoids (a kind of antioxidant) found in black tea improve the function of blood vessel linings.
The cells found in blood vessel linings are important in regulating the diameter of blood vessels, preventing blood clots, and preventing inflammation of blood vessels.
All these functions are often impaired in people with atherosclerosis ("hardening of the arteries"), and these impairments are linked to strokes and heart attacks.
The researchers say, "We’ve shown that black tea may help reverse this dysfunction and may reduce the risk of cardiac events." Read more about Tea and Health News .
