- In 1833, The East India Company's opium trafficking had aroused the anger of China which would lead to war. Despite the protests from the company, Britain allowed the cultivation of tea to begin in India.
- In the 1930's, a British owner took his youngest child to his Darjeeling tea estate. Margaret loved the estate and hoped to return later in life. Sadly, she fell ill and died on the voyage home. The distraught father renamed the estate Margaret's Hope in her honor.
- Until Formosa (i. e., Taiwanese) Oolong entered the market in the 1890's, it was common for Formosa Oolong production to be shipped to Canton and Amoy and exported as Chinese Oolong.

Researchers in Europe, Canada, and Australia have recently demonstrated green tea's potential in the struggle against arthritis. Polyphenols in green tea inhibit certain of the enzymes responsible for the break down of cartilage that can occur in the development of arthritis. Say the researchers, green tea "could constitute an important nutritional aid in the prevention of arthritis as well as being part of an effective therapy in the treatment of joint disease and other pathologies involving the action of these enzymes."
