Tea and Health News
  • Sunburn?:
Dr. Kunin advises that green tea's main antioxidant, EGCG, reduces pain and inflammation. Brew green tea, chill it (an important step!), then apply the tea to your sunburn with a washcloth. (Green Japan Cherry will make you smell the best!)
  • The soothing scent of jasmine:
In a recent Japanese study, researchers tested the aroma of jasmine tea on 24 healthy volunteers to see what effect it may have on mood. Compared to measurements made before exposure to jasmine tea, after 5 minutes of inhalation at the lowest perceived concentration, the mood of the volunteers was calmed and their heart rates slowed. (I may start keeping a jar of Jasmine Yin Hao on my desk just to sniff!) Eur J Appl Physiol, June 23, 2005.
Summer Tea Recipe - Colada Cooler

Chill out with this tropical twist on tea! I was experimenting, so the recipe is approximate and will accept alterations easily:
  1. Brew about 1 oz. of
  2. Pina Colada tea for 10 minutes in 10-12 oz. of freshly boiled water, then chill. (Other fruity teas would probably be fine, too.) Put tea in a blender and add about 1/2 cup of chilled coconut milk (or vanilla ice cream), 1/2 cup chilled crushed pineapple, and one frozen banana, chopped. (Watch your fingers!)
  3. Blend until smooth - it will be a gorgeous purple color! (A dash of rum might be good!)
  4. Makes about 4 servings - looks pretty in wine glasses. Tons of flavor, no added sugar!!
