Tea and Health News
Tea and Hydration: In the March issue of the American Journal of Nutrition, a panel of leading nutrition, obesity, and hydration experts released the first-ever guidelines on what and how much consumers should drink as part of a healthy diet. The concern is that American adults consume an estimated 21 percent of their daily calories from beverages, nearly twice the recommendation by the World Health Organization, and, for the most part, they are receiving little or no nutritional benefits from these beverages. The study was funded by an unrestricted grant from Unilever Health Institute North America who had no influence over the outcome of the research. The group recommends that people should drink more water and limit or eliminate high calorie beverages with little or no nutritional value. Their findings are summarized in an attractive graphic that you can see at this web site: Beverage Intake in the United States (be sure to scroll down on that page to see everything). The details of tea and coffee consumption are here.
